I have thoroughly enjoyed my term as Captain of the Chartered Accountants Ireland Golf Society. We had our annual outing on 12/13 May in the majestic setting of County Sligo GC, Rosses Point. Thank you to all who made it such an enjoyable weekend.
Amongst the 90 odd participants, almost 25% were first time attendees and there was a 100% increase in female participation. Whilst a very social event, some of the notable prize winners were Louise Coffey (Ulster) who became the first woman to win the best gross score. Connacht retained their inter-provincial crown on Saturday. Chartered Accountants Ireland President Pat O’Neill (Munster) won Saturday's main prize and James Power (Leinster and my more talented brother!) won the best newcomer. The inaugural inter firm competition, the Cecil W Donovan trophy was keenly contested on Friday. Incoming President, Sinead Donovan, presented the trophy in honour of her father (Institute President 1986/87) to the winning KPMG team, Mazars finishing second and Deloitte third.
Old friendships were renewed and new ones were made on and off the course. There was an age difference of over 50 years between the youngest and oldest participants, all provinces were represented along with some overseas members and the improving male/female mix demonstrated the breadth and depth of the Institute membership. Hopefully we will see many familiar, friendly faces back again next season, along with plenty of new players.Chartered Accountants Ireland Golf SocietyChartered Accountants IrelandPat O'NeillSinead DonovanRonan Gilmartin, FCARobert KeoghDaniel McMahonPeter FogartyLouise CoffeyJames PowerArlene GibbsSimon HopperEugene McMahonEMPOWERMENT#fun#friendship
